In matters of days, the presidential candidate of the All Progressive Congress, Asiwaju Tinubu is expected to select his running mate for the 2023 presidential election.
It would be recalled that the former Lagos State governor was announced as APC’s flag bearer following the special national convention that was recently held in Abuja.
As we await the decision of Asiwaju on who becomes his running mate, former minister of aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode has spoken about the possibility of having a Muslim-Muslim ticket.
Speaking to Politics Today on Channels Television, Fani-Kayode said if Asiwaju go ahead and pick a Muslim as his running mate, he will explain the decision to Nigeria and also defend the choice.
Hear him “This is a decision that the candidate of the party has to make. Once that decision is made, we will now commend on it.
Whatever he decides to do whether it’s a Muslim-Muslim ticket, or Muslim-Christian ticket, he will win.
All we need is ticket that will give us victory. So if it’s a Muslim-Muslim ticket, its fine and if it’s a Muslim-Christian ticket it’s also fine. Whatever it is, we must ensure we win the election and we will do whatever it takes.
Many people believe Muslim-Muslim ticket will give us the victory. It may be true and we will look at it when the time comes.
Asiwaju may consider the north central or the north east there are people that are qualified for that job and I don’t think religion should be a barrier to it.
I know how sensitive this may be. Some people will feel offended by that but it is our job to explain to Nigerians and defend the choice.”
