A 25-year-old man, Alkasim Ya’u, has been apprehended by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) in Kano State for allegedly stabbing his father to death. The tragic incident occurred in the Tudun Yola ‘C’ area of Gwale Local Government Area of the state.

NSCDC Corps Commandant, Mohammed Falala, revealed the details in a telephone interview in Kano on Sunday, providing insights into the incident that transpired on Friday around 13:30 hours at Alhaji Salisu Bala’s residence.

The deceased, Alhaji Ya’u Mohammed, had taken his mentally ill son, Alkasim Ya’u, to Psychiatric Hospital Dawanau for medical treatment. The pair had booked an appointment with a medical doctor scheduled for Saturday, January 6. However, instead of returning to Katsina, the deceased opted to stay at his brother’s house within the same vicinity.

Investigations conducted by the NSCDC indicated that Alkasim’s mental illness stemmed from his involvement in hard drug activities. Upon their arrival at Tudun Yola, the mentally ill son allegedly attacked his father with a sharp object. NSCDC operatives present at the scene intervened, taking the victim to a hospital and arresting the suspect.

The family is now making arrangements to transport the deceased’s body to Katsina for burial. Simultaneously, the suspect and relevant evidence have been handed over to the Rijiyar Zaki Divisional Police Office for further investigation.
