The Abia State Police Command has reported the arrest of a radio presenter on charges of allegedly sodomizing a teenage boy in the Obingwa area of the state.

According to a statement released by the state Police Public Relations Officer, Maureen Chinaka, on Saturday, the command received a report on January 1, 2024, regarding the alleged incident of unlawful carnal knowledge of a 15-year-old boy by the suspect, identified as Chigozie. The statement noted that Mr. Chigozie was accused of engaging in unlawful carnal knowledge with the minor, and discreet investigations are ongoing, with the matter set to be charged to court.

Contrary to initial reports, sources indicate that the 37-year-old residing in the Eastern Ngwa division is not an employee of any radio station but operates as a freelance journalist in radio stations within Aba. Chigozie was reportedly apprehended on December 31, 2023, at his residence following complaints lodged at the Eastern Ngwa Police Station by the father of the victim.

As per the victim’s account, the suspect took him to a location near a hotel in Aba, offering him bread, which he declined. The victim alleges that the suspect slapped him, causing him to fall on the bed and subsequently fall asleep. Upon waking up the next morning, he experienced pain in his anus. When he questioned the suspect about the incident, he was allegedly threatened with harm if he revealed what happened.

Chigozie is currently held in detention at the Eastern Ngwa Police Station.
