A tragic multiple road crash on the Kaduna-Zaria expressway has resulted in six fatalities and 11 injuries. The incident occurred at Aliko filling station on Tuesday around 06:25hrs, according to Kabir Nadabo, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Kaduna Sector Commander.

Nadabo attributed the accident to speeding and dangerous driving, leading to a temporary halt in the movement of motorists. The rescue team, Zebra 35 Rigachikun, responded promptly to the scene, conducting the necessary rescue operations.

Initial investigations revealed that 23 people were involved in the crash, with 11 sustaining injuries, and tragically, all six fatalities occurred. The accident involved a Toyota bus traveling from Ilesha to Batsari, Katsina State. The driver, allegedly at high speed, lost control and collided with another moving vehicle, resulting in the crash.

Nadabo emphasized that most road traffic crashes on the highway involved motorists from other states, attributing them to fatigue. As the lead agency in transport management and road safety, the FRSC expressed sadness over the incident and reiterated its commitment to saving lives and creating awareness about road safety.

Kaduna state, being a critical corridor, has implemented safety measures to guide transporters, especially during the festive season. The FRSC urged stakeholders, particularly transport unions, to advocate for safety among their drivers.

Nadabo highlighted ongoing efforts to collaborate with media outlets in educating the public about the dangers of dangerous driving, overloading, driving with worn-out tires, and fatigue caused by long journeys.

While appealing to all road users to adhere to safe driving ethics, the FRSC had previously cautioned motorists against overloading and dangerous driving during December. The Corps Marshal, FRSC, Dauda Biu, emphasized the importance of respecting traffic rules and regulations for safer highways and a smooth flow of traffic.
