The presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 election, Peter Obi, has said political leaders must live up to the titles they bear, stressing that public offices should be defined by integrity, competence and service.
Obi stated this while addressing members of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and the Obidient Movement in Uyo.
According to him, leadership in Nigeria must be anchored on accountability and moral responsibility.
“Those who seek to be addressed as ‘His Excellency’ must embody excellence; and those who aim to be ‘distinguished’ must live distinguished lives,” he said.
He added that anyone aspiring to be called “honourable” must demonstrate honour in conduct and decision-making, noting that leadership should be a reflection of service to the people rather than personal gain.
Obi stressed that rebuilding Nigeria requires a shift in attitude among leaders and citizens alike, urging public office holders to uphold transparency and responsibility.
He said the standards expected of leaders should serve as a guiding principle for national development and collective progress.
“Let this be the standard for our leaders and a guiding principle for all citizens committed to the nation’s progress,” he added.
In other news, a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Idris Kalgo, has opined that President Bola Tinubu has lost the support of Northerners.
Bellnews reports that Kalgo made this statement on Saturday during an interview on Trust TV.
Speaking on the party’s preparations for the next general elections, Kalgo expressed optimism that the ADC will oust the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2027.
According to Kalgo, Northern Nigerians no longer like Tinubu, except those who benefited from his ministerial and political appointments.
The ADC chieftain reiterated that Nigerians are tired of Tinubu, and the President can confirm from a survey.
He said, “We are actually happy at the ADC because 20th February 2027 is the date when Nigerians will decide. And it’s also going to be a date whereby we are going to throw out the APC govt.
“Tinubu has practically lost support from the North. The North doesn’t like him anymore. The only people from the North who are still with him are his ministers and appointees. They only tell him what he wants to hear.
“He can send them as investigators to go underground to make a research and survey. He will get to know that Nigerians are no longer with him. They are tired of him.”
