One of the nominees from the South-East region, Urum Kalu Eke, has rejected his appointment to the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) board, as proposed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. This development was disclosed during a Senate plenary session earlier today by former Abia State Governor, Senator Orji Kalu.

Senator Kalu informed the Senate that Urum had personally reached out to him to decline the appointment. Urum cited potential conflicts with his current position as a consultant at the World Bank, where he serves various federal government agencies and private companies.

However, despite Urum’s refusal, the Senate has approved the nominations of four other individuals to the CBN Board of Directors as proposed by President Tinubu. The confirmed directors are Robert Agbede, Ado Yakubu Wanka, Professor Murtala Sabo Sagagi, and Mrs. Muslimat Olanike Aliyu.

This decision follows a thorough vetting process led by Senator Adetokunbo Abiru, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Banking, Insurance & Other Financial Institutions. Abiru clarified that Urum Kalu Eke was not cleared by the committee due to his non-appearance for the screening process.
