Heartland FC has taken drastic measures in response to their recent disappointing performance in the NPFL. Following a humiliating 5-1 defeat to Plateau United at Awka City Stadium on Wednesday, February 28, Heartland has announced a temporary salary cut for its players. This decision was conveyed by the club’s general manager, Promise Nwachukwu, who warned of further sanctions if the team’s performance does not improve.

The defeat dropped Heartland to the bottom of the NPFL table, prompting the management to take action to motivate the players to deliver better results.

Meanwhile, Gombe United faced their own setback as their coach, Mohammed Babaganaru, resigned prior to their match against Enyimba at Enyimba International Stadium, Aba. Babaganaru, a two-time NPFL title winner, cited inadequate funding as the reason for his departure from the club.

In his absence, assistant coach Alhaji Kwairanga assumed control for the NPFL fixture against Enyimba on Thursday, February 29. However, Gombe United faced a tough challenge as they trailed 3-0 against Enyimba in the 73rd minute of the encounter.

If the scoreline remains the same, Gombe United will continue to occupy the 19th position in the league table, while Enyimba will climb to the top spot, edging past Lobi Stars based on goal difference.
