The presidential flag-bearer of the Labour Party for the 2023 election, Peter Obi, has said he is contesting for the 2023 presidency because he is qualified.

Bellnewsonline.com reports that speaking with journalists before a recent campaign rally, Obi, a former Anambra State governor, said he is not contesting because of his ethnicity.

“I am not contesting this election because I am from the South East. I am contesting this election because I am a Nigerian and I’m qualified. I don’t want anybody to vote for me by pitying me,” the Labour Party candidate said.

Meanwhile, the spokesperson for the Obi-Datti Campaign Organisation, Yinusa Tanko, has said Obi is enjoying the support of over 71 per cent of the youth population in Nigeria.

Tanko, who disclosed this in Osogbo, Osun State, ahead of the presidential rally of the party today (Saturday), said the Labour Party structure in Osun, which he said included the youth, artisans, Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Trade Union Congress (TUC) and pensioners, were being mobilised for a victorious outing in the election.
