The foremost Aspirant for the Federal House of Representatives under the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) for the Nnewi North, Nnewi South and Ekwusigo Federal Constituency in Anambra State, Comrade Caleb Okeke– Enyobi has sensationally disclosed that he got attracted into elective politics after studying the political patterns of the former Governor of Anambra State,Mr. Peter Obi.
He made this clear on Thursday during the opening ceremony of the Umudim Ward 2 Office, when he officially declared his intention to run for the plum job In a brief chat after the ceremony, Comrade Okeke– Enyobi was asked what gave rise to his decision to run for election and he. replied:
“Politics has never been interesting to me until Mr. Peter Obi came to the National scene. When he was Governor,I was not matured enough to be in politics because I was still a student.
Now that I’m through with my University education since 10 years ago, I think I’m ready to take on the world. But most importantly, what informed my aspiration is Service. I got back to my hometown here in Nnewi since 2020 and since then, it’s been Service after Service.
I’m serving right now as the Director of Nnewi Museum. I’m also the Director of the Umudim Library. I also serve in other Non Institutional capacities like organizing young people and making sure that the talents of these young people are harnessed. Just like what we do in Anaedo Community Hub.
Now the NDC speaks to my core values which is service. Knowing that the NDC has come and they are also calling for service, I took the initiative to contest. When you add the brand of politics that Peter Obi does and add the fact that I am a Service –Oriented Person, you get the two ingredients that informed my coming out at this point in time. I have always known that at some point in time in my life,I would run for elective office and serve my people And it came so soon as a result of Peter Obi’s Mentorship. Peter Obi is presently providing mentorship for a lot of young people which I think is unintentional.
A lot of young people are listening to him and watching him. I can tell you that many of us are being mentored by him indirectly. We are being mentored by his ways, by his accountability, his transparency, his integrity and his type of strategic leadership and intelligence.
His leadership speaks to health, it speaks to education,it speaks to infrastrural development,it speaks of bringing people out of poverty. It speaks of using data to arrive at informed decision.
That’s the type of leadership that is attractive to my generation. Our leaders today are using old solution to solve new problems. That’s why things are not working.
It’s now time for those who are younger to come up with new and fresh ideas and with the energy and vibrancy of the youths storm the political scene and provide the much needed solutions. Thank you.
