Police Apprehend Eight Suspects in Connection with Killing of Enugu Monarch

The Enugu State Police Command has announced the arrest of eight individuals in connection with the tragic killing of Igwe Ezugwu Patrick, the traditional ruler of Adani Autonomous Community in Uzo Uwani council area. The monarch was reportedly murdered in his village, Akutara, on Sunday.

During a visit to the community on Monday, Commissioner of Police Kanayo Uzuegbu revealed the progress in the investigation, emphasizing the commitment to bringing both the masterminds and perpetrators of the crime to justice. Uzuegbu stated that the swift response was in line with the state’s zero tolerance for crime, and the Governor of Enugu State had directed him to relocate to the local government to ensure the culprits were apprehended.

Uzuegbu assured the community that those responsible for the heinous act would face the consequences of their actions. He disclosed, “So far, we have arrested eight prime suspects, and we will continue to trail the remaining criminal masterminds of this murder. We must get to the root of this matter by unraveling all those behind the killing.”

The President-General of the community, Chief S.N Utazi, expressed gratitude for the prompt response from the state government following the tragic incident. He acknowledged the unexpected nature of the crime, as the community had experienced peace in recent times. Utazi urged the police to persevere in their efforts to apprehend the remaining suspects.

Dr. Obinna Ayogu, the community’s traditional prime minister, conveyed the shock and sadness over the monarch’s murder. He commended the governor and security agencies for their proactive measures to reassure the community of their safety.

The Enugu State Police Command remains dedicated to resolving the case and ensuring that justice is served in line with the law.
