Former Governor and Labour Party presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, Peter Obi, made a compassionate visit on Saturday to internally displaced persons affected by the recent attacks in Bokkos and Barkin-ladi Local Government Areas of Plateau State. The attacks, carried out by armed men on Christmas Eve, resulted in significant loss of lives and property.

Accompanied by party officials from the state, Obi pledged financial support, offering the sum of 5 million naira to each of the local government areas affected, Bokkos and Barkin-Ladi, where displaced persons are currently seeking refuge.

Expressing his dismay, Obi strongly condemned the attacks and emphasized the government’s crucial role in protecting lives and property. He voiced concern about the growing number of Nigerians forced into displacement within their own country, deeming it an unacceptable situation that urgently requires government intervention.

The gunmen targeted over 15 communities in the Bokkos and Barkin-Ladi Local Government Areas, resulting in the tragic loss of more than 190 lives on Christmas Eve. The attackers, wielding guns and causing terror, set numerous houses ablaze, looted farm produce, and wrought destruction upon properties as they ruthlessly attacked and butchered residents. As of now, no group has claimed responsibility for this devastating assault.
