Nigerian Army Opens Online Applications for Direct Short Service Commission Course

The Nigerian Army has officially launched the online application process for the Direct Short Service Commission Course 28/2024, accepting submissions from January 19, 2024, to February 23, 2024. The announcement, posted on X, also highlighted that the application is free of charge.

Interested applicants are urged to submit their applications online by the deadline, and the official application portal is accessible at http://recruitment.army.mil.ng.

The Nigerian Army welcomes applications from eligible Nigerians, including civilians and serving military personnel, for commission into the Nigerian Army as Direct Short Service Commission (DSSC) officers. The DSSC is open to both genders and includes serving military personnel sponsored to civil institutions by any of the Services of the Nigerian Armed Forces.

For eligibility, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  1. Be a Nigerian citizen as defined in the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
  2. Be a male or female between the ages of 20 and 30 years. Medical consultants may be between 25 – 40 years of age by April 2024.
  3. Be medically, mentally, and physically fit according to Nigerian Army standards.
  4. Provide a recommendation and attestation of good character from at least two recognizable referees, such as a Local Government Chairman/Secretary, an officer of the Armed Forces not below the rank of Lieutenant Colonel, an Assistant Commissioner of Police and above, who must hail from the applicant’s state of origin. Passport photographs of referees must be affixed to the letter of attestation.
  5. Submit a letter of attestation from former institutions.
  6. Meet the height requirement of at least 1.68m (for males) and 1.65m (for females).
  7. Have no criminal convictions and be free from any disciplinary cases if applying as military personnel, endorsed by the applicant’s Commanding Officer/Commander.
  8. Possess at least a first degree with not less than Second Class Lower Division or HND (where applicable) from an accredited institution of learning.
  9. Provide a valid birth certificate, age declaration, valid certificate of state of origin, NYSC discharge certificate or valid exemption certificate, and valid contact addresses and telephone numbers of parents/guardians and Next of Kin.
  10. Candidates must not have any bodily inscriptions or tattoos, and they must present all original copies of educational certificates (from primary to post-secondary).
  11. Military personnel must provide valid military identity cards, letters of recommendation by their Commanding Officers/Commanders, and valid letters of service sponsorship to tertiary academic institutions (where applicable). Additionally, they must have served for a period of not less than 5 years.
  12. Candidates must not belong to any cult/society/fraternity, and those with swimming abilities will have an added advantage.
