In line with my vision to address the health concerns in Anambra South Senatorial District, today being Tuesday, December 20, 2022, my bill for the establishment of the Federal Orthopedic hospital, Ukpor – Nnewi South Anambra State passed second reading on the floor of the Senate.

Undoubtedly, orthopaedic healthcare is a critical sector in every society as it plays a crucial role in the overall day to day well being of the people. Presently, Anambra State is the second largest commercial city in Nigeria after Lagos and hosts the largest auto spare parts market in West Africa. The population is overwhelmingly large as Anambra hosts a large number of visitors from across the globe based on the high level of commercial and industrial activities going on in the state.

The establishment of the Federal Orthopedic hospital, Ukpor is not only a necessity but an urgent and imperative institution that will help strengthen accessible and effective healthcare delivery in Anambra State. The Orthopedic Hospital will be fully equipped, maintained and operational to provide medical services for curative and rehabilitative orthopedic treatment.

Conclusively, it is my ardent belief that adequate healthcare is an important factor for human capital development, which has been demonstrated to be the basis of economic productivity. It is, therefore, my expectation that having passed the second reading, this bill will be recommended to the relevant committee for further legislative action.
