Operatives of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) have taken action against illegal parking by impounding 123 vehicles around bridges across Lagos Island.

This enforcement initiative, as reported on LASTMA’s official platform, was led by Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, the General Manager of LASTMA, in collaboration with security personnel. The operation was conducted in response to a directive from the Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, Sola Giwa.

Mr. Bakare-Oki emphasized that despite repeated warnings issued to both private and commercial bus drivers to cease indiscriminate parking and illegal garage operations around bridges, compliance was lacking. Consequently, LASTMA took decisive action.

The impounded vehicles, totaling 123, were found parked unlawfully around various locations including Ebute-Ero by Idumota Bridge, Simpson Bridge, Apongbon Under Bridge, and Elegbata area of Lagos Island.

Expressing his dismay, the General Manager highlighted the public nuisance caused by these drivers, who freely parked around bridges, leading to unnecessary traffic congestion and inconvenience.

Mr. Bakare-Oki reiterated LASTMA’s commitment to ensuring orderly traffic flow and urged all motorists to comply with parking regulations to prevent disruptions to the smooth functioning of the road network.
