Kenya’s Bernard Sang Secures Victory at Lagos City Marathon

Bernard Sang of Kenya triumphed at the Access Bank 2024 Lagos City Marathon, clinching the prestigious $50,000 grand prize after an impressive performance.

In a field featuring around 80 elite marathoners, Sang emerged victorious in the 42-kilometer race, completing the course in 2 hours, 16 minutes, and 49 seconds.

Sang’s compatriots, Simon Cheprot and Edwin Kiptoo, claimed the second and third positions, respectively, earning $40,000 and $30,000.

Notably, Sang had previously participated in the 2023 edition, finishing third.

Meanwhile, Ethiopia’s Kebene Chala, aged 25, secured the top position among women, also earning a substantial $50,000 prize.

The male and female winners automatically qualified for the marathon event at the 2024 Olympics in Paris.

Among the Nigerian participants, Shehu Muazu emerged as the top finisher, earning a commendable cash prize of N1 million.

The marathon, spanning 42 kilometers, commenced at the National Stadium in Surulere and concluded at the Eko Atlantic City in Victoria Island, marking another successful edition of the event.
