Nollywood actor Kenneth Okonkwo has resigned from the All Progressive Congress (APC). Okonkwo gave the Nkpunano Ward Chairman in Enugu State’s Nsukka a letter of resignation.

He announced his departure from the APC after the plan to run a Muslim-Muslim ticket in the 2023 presidential election.

Kashim Shettima was announced as Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s running mate on Sunday in Daura, Katsina State, according to the DAILY POST, the party’s presidential candidate for the 2023 election.

In his letter of resignation, Okonkwo emphasized that he joined the APC because he saw it as a vehicle for fighting injustice.

The former candidate for governor continued, “Those concepts are now alien to the APC with its tragic decision to paint our Muslim brothers in a bad light by claiming that the Muslims in Nigeria will not accept to vote for a Northern Christian as Vice President to pair with Southern Muslim.”

“It is incorrect to assume that Muslims cannot support a vice president who is a Christian from the North if they can voluntarily vote for presidents from the South.

Christians from Northern Nigeria will no longer have a future in politics if this is allowed to prevail.

“On top of that, they haven’t tried their hardest to protect Nigerians’ lives and property, which should be their main priority.

“The country is also in ruins.”

On Monday, Okonkwo wrote on Instagram that he had resigned from the APC for the sake of equality, justice, fairness, and peaceful coexistence among Nigerians. He also attached the resignation letter.

“May God deliver Nigeria from people who put their desire for power before their desire for a better future.

God bless you and Barka da Sallah to our Muslim brothers and sisters.
