I Regret Supporting Buhari In 2015 – Olusegun Obasanjo

Olusegun Obasanjo, the former president of Nigeria expressed regrets for endorsing Muhammadu Buhari’s bid for the presidency in 2015.

Obasanjo revealed this in a conversation he had on a plane with blogger Ifedayo Agoro.

Agoro recently met the former president and sat next to him on the plane, she revealed, and she shared the specifics of their one-on-one talk via her official Twitter account.

She cited Obasanjo as saying,

“I supported Buhari in error; he had no economic understanding. We anticipated that he would combat corruption and insecurity before appointing experts in the economy and infrastructure.”

The former president also charged that Nigerian youths lacked a shared motivation to challenge the political establishment. He stated that nothing will change unless the young people of Nigeria demonstrate the will to alter the political system in the nation.

Olusegun Obasanjo was the nation’s head of state from 1976 to 1979 and then its president from 1999 to 2007. He is an ideologically committed Nigerian nationalist who served in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from 1999 to 2015 and the African Democratic Congress (ADC) since 2018.
