The factional presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Jude Ezenwafor, has reportedly withdrawn from the presidential race.

The announcement came after the Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide led by Mazi Okwu Nnabuike gave him an ultimatum to step down from the race.

In the report which was made by Bellnews on Thursday afternoon, Ezenwafor made this known in a letter he sent to the national leadership of a faction of his party.

In a letter which has been circulating online, Ezenwafor wrote – “After consulting my supporters nationwide, I decided to withdraw for personal reasons.”

Ezenwafor had sparked reactions on social media when the report surfaced that he has emerged as the presidential candidate of a faction of the Labour Party.

Some of Peter Obi’s supporters had accused him of being used to distract Peter Obi, and some had called him to step down.

Some also expressed worries that the tensions in the perceived division in the party may affect Peter Obi’s presidential ambition.

This came after Peter Obi was announced as the presidential flag bearer of another faction of the party a few days ago.

With the withdrawal of Ezenwafor from the race, the coast is now clear for Peter Obi ahead of the 2023 elections.
