Following an operation led by Governor Makinde, a mining facility in Ibadan has been shut down due to regulatory violations. His Chief Press Secretary, Sulaimon Olarewaju, confirmed that the facility, initially designated for recycling batteries and tyres, was ordered to cease operations.

During the operation, four individuals suspected of involvement in the facility’s activities were apprehended. The Oyo state government stated that these individuals lacked the necessary government license for conducting business activities in the state.

Governor Makinde, who personally inspected the factory site in Idi Ayunre, Oluyole Local Government Area, Ibadan, revealed preliminary findings suggesting the involvement of Chinese nationals in the facility’s management.

The governor stressed the importance of state involvement in the issuance of mining licenses to mitigate security risks. Despite the miners having obtained a federal operational license, the absence of state oversight raises concerns.

Regarding the facility’s operations, Governor Makinde clarified that they contravened Executive Order 001 of 2024, relating to the proper handling of hazardous substances. The apprehended workers will face legal repercussions accordingly.

Furthermore, the governor announced plans for the state government to take control of the illegal premises through legal means, facilitating a comprehensive investigation into the matter.
