The Federal Government is set to initiate electronic verification for over 11,000 military retirees spread across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory. The Electronic Verification Management System, designed to streamline the verification process, will commence its testing phase on February 19.

Air Vice Marshal Paul Irumheson, Chairman of the Military Pensions Board, announced this development on Thursday, citing challenges associated with the traditional physical verification exercise. Factors such as the advanced age of pensioners, exorbitant transportation costs, security risks, and the logistical difficulties faced by pensioners residing abroad have necessitated a shift towards electronic verification.

Irumheson elaborated, stating, “To facilitate future verification exercises and uphold the integrity of the pension database, the Military Pensions Board has developed an Electronic Verification Management System. This web-based platform allows pensioners to undergo verification conveniently from their own locations using mobile devices.”

The initial phase of the electronic verification process will involve 300 pensioners from each state, totaling 11,000 participants, who will test the application’s functionality. This pilot test will run from February 19 to March 1, 2024, marking the beginning of a more efficient and accessible approach to pension verification for military retirees.
