In the early hours of Monday, a tragic incident occurred around the Ojuelegba area of Lagos State, resulting in the death of one person following a collision between trucks.

The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) reported that at approximately 01:37 hrs, its response team encountered a multiple-vehicle accident involving three articulated trucks on the Ojuelegba bridge. The LASEMA team was returning from a recovery operation in the Ijora axis of Lagos when they came across the incident.

The multiple-vehicle accident involved two Shacman F2000 Dangote trucks (registration numbers unknown), laden with sand, and a Daf truck (registration number EKY 93 YC) carrying chicken feed.

According to LASEMA, the lead Dangote truck experienced a mechanical error while in motion, driving in a convoy. This sudden halt led to a collision from the rear by the second Dangote truck and the Daf truck, which was traveling at high speed.

Tragically, the driver of the Daf truck, an adult male, became trapped upon the impact of the multiple collisions and lost his life. Fortunately, the truck assistant escaped unharmed.

The response team extricated the deceased driver’s body, which has been handed over to the State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit (SEHMU) for transfer to the morgue and further processing.

All affected vehicles have been recovered off the bridge to the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) office in Iponri, Surulere. The Ojuelegba bridge has been reopened for safe and easy vehicular movement, and the recovery operation has been concluded.

In attendance during the response were the LASEMA Response Team, LRT Paramedics, Nigerian Police, and LASG Fire and Rescue Services.
