The Federal High Court in Kaduna has approved medical access for former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, while he remains in custody over an ongoing corruption case.
Bellnews reports that the case is being handled by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission.
El-Rufai is standing trial alongside Joel Adoga on a 10-count charge linked to alleged money laundering, conversion of funds, and handling of proceeds said to come from corruption. Both men have denied the charges.
During Wednesday’s sitting, the defence team asked the court to allow El-Rufai to receive treatment for dental and eye problems.
They requested that he be taken to Mile Dental Clinic and Skipper Eye-Q Hospital in Abuja for care.
Justice Rilwan Aikawa approved the request. The judge ordered that the anti-corruption agency should move El-Rufai to the approved hospitals under tight security whenever medical care is needed.
He is to be returned to custody immediately after each visit. The court also stated that every movement must remain under the supervision of the commission.
The ICPC said it will follow the court order while still keeping the defendant in lawful custody as he continues to meet his bail terms.
El-Rufai was earlier granted bail in the sum of N200 million with two sureties. The court also accepted the earlier administrative bail given to his co-defendant.
The matter has been adjourned to May 7, 2026, for a ruling on the request to change the bail conditions.
