Senator Uche Lilian Ekwunife during senate plenary today presented A Matter Of Urgent Public Importance On The Attack On Senator Dr Patrick Ifeanyi Ubah And The Gruesome Murder Of His Aides .
The Senator who came under POINT OF ORDER 41 and 51 moved for the leave of the Senate to present a matter of urgent public importance on the attack on Senator Ifeanyi Ubah and the gruesome murder of his aides.
The motion was seconded by Senator Albert Bassey (YPP Akwa Ibom State)
Recall that Sunday 11th September, 2022 remains a black Sunday in Anambra State as the Senator representing Anambra South Senatorial Zone narrowly escaped assassination in Nkwo Enugwu Ukwu at about 6pm on his way back from Synod held by the Anglican Diocese of Nnewi in Ozubulu; Ekwusigo LGA of Anambra State.
This clear attempt to murder the Senator which took the precious life of his Regional Manager Ikechukwu Odum and his Assistant Goodnews Mathias alongside two Police officers has left the entire state in shock and what is more shocking is that the prime suspect of the attack, a business man turned politician who had openly bragged that he will go at all length to ensure that Sen Dr Patrick Ifeanyi Ubah do not return to the Senate is yet to be arrested, bellnewsonline.com gathered.
Information made available to bellnewsonline com clearly revealed that the hired gunmen came twenty minutes earlier and directed few Sunday petty traders to close down and move away from the scene of the attack.
The first gunshot which was fired up was directed to the pilot one Mr. Chigozie who told bellnews after the incidence that he suspected the move of the hired gunmen and tried pointing it out to the policeman in front of the car when that very hand he used to point was shot and his tires deflected which brought the pilot one to total stop. The ambush was designed in such a way that nobody in the convoy will survive if not for the intervention of the security men in the Prado Jeep who provided backup that facilitated the escape of the Senator and other men within the convoy safe the two policemen that laid down their lives and the two promising aides who must have been hit by early bullets.
While the perpetrators are sponsoring misleading audio messages to water down the murder scene in which only the Senator’s car was fired from all angles including the roof top of the car , people are wondering alongside with the Senators why major arrests are yet to be made, a week after the life threatening incidence.
However, the Senate after the contributions by the members resolved to do among others the following:
i. Observe a minute silence in honour of the victims that lost their lives in the unfortunate attack;
ii. Direct the Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Services and other relevant security agencies to carry out comprehensive investigations into the incident with a view to arresting and prosecuting the perpetrators; and
iii. Mandate the Nigeria Police, Department of State Services and other relevant security agencies to report findings back to the Senate Committee on National Security and Intelligence as well as the Senate Committee on Police Affairs within two weeks..
