Naira Plunges to N2,000/£1 at the Parallel Market The Nigerian naira has hit a new low, surpassing 2,000 naira against the British pound in the parallel market.

This information was confirmed by a Bureau de Change operator in Wuse Zone 4, Malam Ibrahim, during a conversation with Punch.

He attributed the significant depreciation of the currency to persistent high demand.

“Yes, it’s accurate. Currently, we are selling the pound for over N2,000, and this is largely due to the continuous and substantial demand for these currencies,” he stated on Monday.

This recent decline from N1,930 recorded on Saturday represents a historic low for the naira’s performance against the pound.

Similarly, the naira has experienced a depreciation against the dollar, now being traded at N1,673 in the parallel forex market, down from N1,670/$ on Friday.
