Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has called on the Federal Government to address the economic challenges facing Nigerians in 2024. Atiku conveyed this message in his New Year statement to the nation.

In the release issued on Sunday, Atiku expressed gratitude and adulation to God as Nigerians embraced the new year. Despite acknowledging 2023 as a challenging year with valuable lessons, Atiku highlighted the escalating costs of essential items, disruptions in the national economy, and the deteriorating state of security at both national and community levels as pressing issues that need immediate attention.

Criticizing the government’s policy approach, Atiku remarked, “Certainly, many families and businesses are already grappling with the severity of the challenges we are currently facing, and alternative pathways could have been explored if the government had adopted a more astute strategy.”

Atiku emphasized the need for a well-conceived National Planning vision that prioritizes the common people of Nigeria in the development agenda. He asserted that the early days of 2024 provide an opportunity for the government to chart a course toward alleviating the acute hardship experienced by Nigerians.

Calling for clarity in policy projections, Atiku urged the government to abandon the current approach of “groping in the dark” and instead show a clear direction in addressing the economic difficulties facing the populace.
