Shortly after a lawmaker; Honorable Okechukwu Okoye, representing Aguata II constituency of Anambra state was reportedly beheaded by unknown gunmen, the Anambra state’s Commissioner of Police, Mr Echeng Echeng, made his reaction public.
According to Bellnews, the state’s Commissioner of Police (CP) described the murder of the lawmaker as “a barbaric act of cowardice”.
In the press statement released by Anambra state’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Ikenga Tochukwu, the CP recounted how operatives of the Command earlier embarked on a rescue operation after the lawmaker’s abduction along Aguluzigbo Umuona, Aguata Local Government Area (LGA) of the state.
The state’s Commissioner of Police confirmed that the headless body of Honorable Okechukwu Okoye was recovered by Police Officers along Nnobi, Ideani road and has been deposited in the morgue
Lastly, the Commissioner of Police assured the public that those behind this criminal and dastardly act will be brought before the law.
He also commiserated with the family members and friends the deceased lawmaker left behind.
