Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State has openly declared and backed the famous presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi, urging Nigerians to vote him to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari in 2023.
Speaking while praising the former Anambra State governor for visiting the Internally Displaced People (IDPs) camps in the State on Christmas day, Ortom said the LP presidential flagbearer is the best person that can help deliver Nigeria from its challenges.
While praying that God would bless Obi’s presidential ambition, Ortom said the LP candidate has the capacity to bring justice, equity and fairness.
According to Ortom: “Several presidential candidates have come here, and none of them have chosen to visit those IDPs camps and look at their plight to see how they are doing and give them hope that when they win, they will bring them succour, help, and hope.
“For you to have chosen to visit the IDPs on a Christmas day that you should be celebrating with your family, for me as a Christian, I say God will bless you and your aspirations. My prayer is that God will bless your aspiration to be the president of this country.
“Because I have seen capacity, faith, and hope, and I have seen someone who can bring the required equity, justice, and fairness that I have been pursuing since I became governor in 2015. If I were not in PDP, I would have been following you all over the place to canvass and vote for you.
“But, because I’m in PDP, I’m telling Nigerians that this man can help deliver this country from its challenges.”
Meanwhile, speaking at the IDP camp, Obi said his visit is to celebrate the 2022 Christmas Day with them and show that he is sad about their five years of living in the camp due to the activities of suspected herdsmen.
The former Governor of Anambra State lamented that the displaced persons were forced to abandon their homes due to perversive insecurity, noting that he shared in their pains and losses.
Obi encouraged them to be patient and look to God for intervention, hence his decision to join them on a day like Christmas when many families share the love.
He challenged the Federal Government to resettle the displaced persons so that they will move on with their lives, saying that the next government will not tolerate its citizens living in IDP camps.
