Lagos Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, announced in a statement on Wednesday that the inauguration of the Lagos Red Line Rail Project by Tinubu is scheduled for Thursday. The project’s initial phase will connect Agbado in Ogun state to Oyingbo in central Lagos.

The statement outlines that once fully operational, the train will conduct 37 trips daily, accommodating approximately 500,000 passengers. This milestone marks a significant advancement in the state’s transportation infrastructure.

The Red Line is the second rail line owned and managed by the Lagos State Government, complementing the existing Blue Line that stretches from Marina to Mile 2.

With eight stations in its first phase – Agbado, Iju, Agege, Ikeja, Oshodi, Mushin, Yaba, and Oyingbo – the train aims to significantly reduce travel time, alleviate health issues associated with stress, and enhance economic productivity. Additionally, it will contribute to reducing traffic congestion, accidents, and ensure commuter safety.

The Red Line is seamlessly integrated with bus terminals at Ikeja, Oshodi, Oyingbo, Yaba, and Iju, enhancing inter-modal connectivity within the public transportation network. Furthermore, the rail corridor incorporates 10 vehicular overpasses and pedestrian bridges to separate train traffic from vehicles and pedestrians.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu emphasized last week that the completion of the rail project will revolutionize public transportation in Nigeria.
