As the 2025 gubernatorial election approaches in Anambra State, the youth wing of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has underscored the non-negotiable nature of zoning for the governorship seat. They maintain that Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo should serve a second term to complete the eight-year tenure for the Anambra South Senatorial zone.
Honorable Chinedu Romanus Eze, also known as Yagazie, the newly appointed APGA Youth leader for the Southeast geopolitical zone, emphasized this stance during a Summit held in Onitsha. He cautioned against any attempt to undermine the zoning arrangement, stressing that it offers equal opportunities for all senatorial zones to occupy the governorship seat.
Former leader of Onitsha North Legislative Council, Honorable Else, echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the importance of upholding zoning to ensure peaceful political transitions. He pointed out the significance of Anambra North’s governorship stint under Willie Obiano, facilitated by the zoning formula.
Eze further articulated the belief that Soludo’s reelection is crucial for maintaining the zoning pattern, praising his administration’s performance in various sectors such as security, education, environmental sanitation, healthcare, and infrastructure development.
The APGA zonal youth leader outlined a regional agenda aiming to expand APGA’s influence across the Southeast, with plans to secure victories in the five states of the region. He emphasized the youth’s commitment to mobilizing support for APGA and displacing other political parties from government positions.
The Summit, themed “Between the Youth, Security & Community Development,” aimed to foster collaboration in addressing challenges like insecurity, unemployment, and promoting effective leadership at the community level, inspired by Governor Soludo’s initiatives.
Anthony Nwora, a chieftain of APGA and youth leader in Onitsha North, stressed the party’s achievements under Soludo’s leadership and expressed confidence in his reelection. He highlighted Soludo’s accomplishments in education, security, infrastructure, and youth empowerment, advocating for his second term.
In his opening remarks, Chairman of Onitsha North Local Government, Honorable Charles Ozoma, lauded Soludo’s youth-friendly governance and initiatives to combat unemployment and poverty, particularly the “one youth two skills” program. He encouraged youth participation in such programs for personal development and societal impact.
The Summit featured insights from various speakers, including retired Commissioner of Police Chief Ikechukwu Aduba, University Don Dr. Mulumba Obiajulu, and Rev. Fr. Val Obiagwu, alongside APGA chieftains and dignitaries.
