Professor Charles Nwekeaku has explained why the People’s Democratic Party should be worried about the forthcoming Presidential election, despite picking Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, Delta State Governor as Atiku Abubakar’s running mate.
During an interview with AriseTV, Charles Nwekeaku was asked if the People’s Democratic Party should be worried since the Southeast has a Presidential candidate; Peter Obi who appears to likely going to share the votes from the region with Atiku Abubakar in the forthcoming Presidential election.
While answering the question, Charles Nwekeaku said that the PDP has every reason to be worried.
While explaining why he said that the party should be worried, he said that the PDP has really offended the Southeast.
He said that the Southeast has made an immense contribution to the PDP, right from its formative stage.
Going down the history of the People’s Democratic Party, the secretary of the Igbo Elders Consultative Forum said that the former Vice President of Nigeria, late Dr. Alex Ekwueme super-headed the formation of the party, since then, the Southeast has consistently voted for the PDP.
he recalled that during Goodluck Jonathan’s era, the Southeast zone gave the PDP more votes than any other zone.
He also said that Peter Obi may be an obstacle to PDP’s victory in the forthcoming Presidential election because the Southeast and anyone who hates injustice will likely vote for him.
He added that the PDP needs to settle the issue it has with the Southeast, otherwise, they have something to worry about.
