Senator Elisha Ishaku Abbo, the lawmaker representing Adamawa North in the National Assembly, has said the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Ahmed Tinubu, refused to consult party members before picking former Governor of Borno State, Kashim Shettima, as his running mate.

Bellnews Online reports that the decision to field a Muslim-Muslim ticket by picking Shettima has thrown in ruling party into crisis ahead of the 2023 presidential election.

Many members of the APC, especially in the North, have asked Tinubu to rescind his decision and pick a Northern Christian to join him on the party’s ticket.

Speaking on the choice of Shettima, Abbo accused the former Lagos State Governor of not carrying out any form of consultation before the selection of Shettima was made.

“There was no consultation. Anybody who tells you that there was any consultation is telling you a big lie because there was no consultation; consultation with whom? That’s why I blame Mr. President,” he told Bellnews Online.

On reports that President Muhammadu Buhari was given the privilege to nominate a running mate, Abbo said: “Of course, we all know who Buhari is.

He said he is tired and wants to go home. Maybe, when they met him, he reminded them that he had earlier said he was tired.

“So, the fact remains that there was no consultation. They put the placeholder to buy time, maybe, see one or two people and bribe them.
