A former governor of Imo State, Ikedi Ohakim, has narrated how he narrowly escaped death some hours ago after some unknown gunmen tried to kill him and his two children at Ehime Mbano Local Government Area of Imo State, the Bellnewsonline.com.

It was reported that even though the former Imo State governor and his children were saved from the attack, about four policemen were said to have lost their lives in the deadly attack.

Narrating his ordeal, Ikedi Ohakim said he thought him and his children were already dead after the gunmen kept shooting at their vehicles despite the fact that they already killed some policemen from his escorts, however the former governor disclosed that it was with the help of the bulletproof car that was conveying them that saved them.

The governor also noted that his skillful driver was also part of those who saved his life because if he wasn’t able to maneuver the gunmen, they would have been able to block them and waste their lives.

While speaking about the nature of the gunmen, Ikedi Ohakim noted that it wasn’t IPOB members that attacked him because the people who attacked him were more professional than IPOB.

He said, “They attacked us from behind and were firing at our vehicles consistently. I thought I was a dead man and I was with two of my children – my son and daughter. What saved me was the bulletproof vehicle. That I am alive today is by the special grace of God and the bulletproof vehicle. But unfortunately for me they killed four of our boys, including the driver. Yes, we lost four of the boys and I am devastated. How can that be? What crime did they commit?”
