This announcement came alongside the elections of Venerable Owen Ukafia of the Diocese of Uyo, Venerable Nuhu Yohannato of the Diocese of Kastina, and Venerable Mathew Tamunotari Ogaze of the Diocese of Ogbia.
Ven. Iyke Egbuonu, hailing from the Diocese on the Niger in Anambra State, is the successor to the former pioneer Archbishop of Enugu ecclesiastical province, Archbishop Amos Madu, who retired last year. His election as the 2nd bishop of Oji Diocese (Anglican Communion) since its establishment in 1999 was confirmed by the primate of the Church of Nigeria Anglican Communion, Most Rev’d Henry Ndukuba, during the Church of Nigeria standing committee in Delta State.
Members of the Church were encouraged to pray for and support the newly elected bishops and their families as they prepare to take up their new roles after consecration.
Born on September 30th, 1976, to the family of late Chief David and Mrs. Rose Egbuonu of Uruagu, Umudioka in Dunukofia L.G.A of Anambra State, Ven. Ikechukwu Joseph Egbuonu is a distinguished scholar. He holds degrees from Trinity Theological College, Umuahia, and the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, including a Ph.D. in theology. Ordained as a deacon in July 2007 and later as a priest in 2008 in the Diocese on the Niger, he has served diligently in numerous parishes and currently serves as the Vicar of Immanuel Anglican Church Parish Nkwelle-Ezunaka.
Ven. Egbuonu is known for his global evangelism efforts through organizations like Gospel Labour Partners (GoLPart) and his role in coordinating the Diocese on the Niger Mission and Outreach Team (DONMORT). His profound understanding of scripture and impactful teaching ministry has taken him across continents, ministering in major countries in Europe, Africa, Asia, the US, and Canada.
He is happily married to Mrs. Ifeoma Egbuonu, and they are blessed with four children: Divine, Favour, Rejoice, and Great.
