In a recent development, the Lagos State Government has addressed claims circulating on social media regarding the signing of a contract for the construction of the green metro line.

Recall that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu had previously announced plans for the construction of a green rail line at the Lekki Free Trade Zone to complement ongoing infrastructural projects in the area.

While progress had been made in the expression of interest and feasibility study for the proposed 68-kilometre rail line, a social media post from Lagospedia suggested that the state government had already signed a contract for its construction.

However, Senior Special Assistant to Governor Sanwo-Olu on New Media, Jubril Gawat, clarified the situation in a post on Monday. He stated that the contract signed pertained to the second phase of the red line, which involves linking the red line from the Ebute Metta station to connect with the blue line at the National Theatre.

Gawat’s statement effectively refutes the claims made by Lagospedia, clarifying that the green metro line contract has not yet been signed.
