Nnamdi Azikiwe University, located in Awka, Anambra State, has issued a stern directive, stating that students who fail to settle their school fees by the stipulated deadline risk exclusion from examinations. This announcement was made by the Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof Charles Okechukwu Esimone, during the 2023/2024 matriculation ceremonies for newly admitted undergraduate students.

Addressing the matriculants, the VC emphasized the importance of fulfilling financial obligations to the institution. He asserted, “It is imperative that you pay your school fees in a timely manner to enable the University to maintain its existing facilities and facilitate the provision of new ones. Any student who neglects to pay their fees by the specified deadline may be barred from participating in examinations.”

Furthermore, Esimone outlined additional responsibilities incumbent upon the students for a successful academic journey. These include maintaining a minimum attendance of 75% in all lectures and practical sessions to qualify for examination eligibility.

The VC also issued a stern warning against examination misconduct, cautioning that such infractions could result in suspension for up to three years or expulsion from the university. Additionally, students found to have enrolled with counterfeit credentials would face immediate expulsion.

Highlighting the university’s zero-tolerance policy towards cultism, the VC affirmed that any student proven to be involved in cult activities would face expulsion. He further emphasized that other forms of deviant behavior such as robbery and rape would be met with severe disciplinary action, including expulsion and potential legal repercussions.

While extending congratulations to the newly admitted students, the VC urged them to remain focused on their academic pursuits throughout their tenure at the university. He expressed hope that their journey would culminate in the attainment of a prestigious university degree.

Moreover, the VC underscored the university’s commitment to academic excellence through its partnerships with renowned institutions worldwide. These collaborations, spanning across the United States, China, Europe, Africa, and local institutions, aim to foster academic program development, facilitate teaching and research initiatives, promote public service, and encourage staff and student exchange programs.
