UN Dispatches Experts to Conduct Security Audit at Lagos and Abuja Airports

In response to concerns regarding terrorism, the United Nations (UN) has dispatched a team of experts to Nigeria to conduct a comprehensive security audit at Lagos and Abuja airports. The audit will focus on crucial aviation security aspects, including Inflight Security, Passenger and Baggage Security, Acts of Unlawful Interference, Facilitation, Legislation, Training, Quality Control Function, Operations, and Cargo, Mail, and Catering.

Lagos and Abuja airports have been selected for evaluation as part of the 2024 ICAO Universal Security Audit Programme through Continuous Monitoring Approach.

The announcement was made through a statement signed by Michael Achimugu, the Director of Public Affairs & Consumer Protection, on Monday, as reported by Naija News.

The four-member team assigned for the audit includes Callum Vine as the team lead, accompanied by James Mabala, Tebogo Mphela, and Alagie Jeng.

Scheduled to last nearly two weeks, the USAP CMA audit is set to conclude on March 22, 2024.

Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, stressed the importance of the audit in upholding the highest security standards within Nigeria’s aviation industry. He emphasized that the audit represents a concerted effort to maintain top-notch security standards across the country’s aviation sector.

Nigeria’s commitment to bolstering its defenses against evolving threats and vulnerabilities is demonstrated through rigorous assessments, comprehensive evaluations, and collaborative partnerships.
