On Tuesday evening, Aloysius Bugingo, a prominent Ugandan pastor and vocal supporter of President Yoweri Museveni, survived a shooting attack that left his bodyguard, Muhumuza Richard, dead, according to police reports on Wednesday.
The incident occurred when unidentified assailants opened fire on Bugingo’s vehicle, and they quickly fled the scene on a motorcycle. Bugingo, head of the House of Prayer Ministries, one of Uganda’s influential Pentecostal churches, sustained injuries but managed to transport the vehicle to Mulago Hospital. Unfortunately, his bodyguard, Muhumuza Richard, did not survive the assault and was confirmed dead upon arrival at the hospital.
Ugandan police have launched an investigation into the attempted murder of Pastor Aloysius Bugingo and the killing of his bodyguard. Bugingo, known for his controversial stance and unconditional support for President Museveni, has his own television and radio channels.
Despite sustaining injuries, Bugingo is currently undergoing medical treatment and is closely monitored at Mulago Hospital. His support for President Museveni and the president’s son, who is considered a potential successor, has drawn criticism from the opposition, leading to open criticism of Bugingo in his sermons.
