The government of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has announced the resumption of visa services for Nigerian citizens, marking a significant milestone in the bilateral relationship between the two nations.
This decision comes two years after the UAE imposed a visa ban on Nigerians and suspended pending visa applications.
In a statement released by UAE authorities, the resumption of visa services is effective from March 4, 2024. The decision follows productive discussions between Nigerian President Bola Tinubu and his UAE counterpart, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, demonstrating a mutual commitment to strengthening diplomatic ties and enhancing cultural, social, and economic collaboration.
The statement reads: “The Government of Nigeria and the Government of the United Arab Emirates, represented by the UAE Embassy in Abuja, are pleased to announce the resumption of visa services for Nigerian citizens wishing to visit the UAE, starting on 4th March 2024.
“This significant development reflects the successful outcome of extensive discussions between our nations, highlighting our shared dedication to deepening ties and fostering opportunities for cooperation in various sectors.
“The resumption of visa services follows discussions between His Excellency President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of Nigeria and His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the United Arab Emirates, marking a significant advancement in our bilateral relations.”
Furthermore, the UAE has introduced an enhanced document verification process for Nigerian visa applicants. Starting March 4, 2024, all Nigerian applicants must obtain a Document Verification Number through the dedicated online Document Verification Hub platform before proceeding with their visa applications through designated travel agents. The process will be completed at the UAE Embassy in Abuja or Lagos.
Saleem Saeed Al-Shamsi, the UAE Ambassador to Nigeria, emphasized the importance of this updated procedure in facilitating straightforward and expedited visa applications for Nigerians.
The announcement underscores the ongoing efforts to strengthen the robust ties between the UAE and Nigeria, aiming to contribute to the prosperity and well-being of both nations.
