In a devastating incident, the goalkeeper and assistant coach of an Algerian top-flight football club, MC El Bayadh, lost their lives in a fatal team bus crash. The tragedy occurred as the team was en route to Tizi Ouzou for their scheduled weekend fixture against JS Kabylie.
The Algerian Football Federation has reported that the accident took place in Tiaret, approximately 150 kilometers from the Mediterranean coast. Alongside the loss of the goalkeeper and coach, ten other players from the MC El Bayadh squad sustained injuries in the crash.
As a mark of respect for the victims and their families, the federation has taken the decision to cancel all footballing activities nationwide for the upcoming weekend across various leagues and competitions. Additionally, the draw for the next round of Algeria’s primary cup competition, initially slated for December 26, will be rescheduled.
This tragic incident has cast a somber mood over the football community in Algeria, mourning the loss of two individuals who contributed to the sport passionately.
