President Bola Tinubu has approved a 50% reduction in inter-state transport fares and free train rides for Nigerians from December 21, 2023, to January 4, 2024. Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dele Alake, disclosed this information at the Aso Rock Villa on Wednesday.
The participating companies in this initiative were revealed by Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga. The five companies involved in the scheme are GIG (God is Good), Chisco Transport, Young Shall Grow, God Bless Ezenwata, and Area Motor.
Travelers can enjoy the 50% discount on public transport via mini buses and luxury buses operated by these companies. The initiative aims to alleviate the transport burden for five million Nigerians during the specified period.
A document shared by the Presidency outlines 28 routes covered by the buses, including popular routes such as Lagos-Kano, Lagos-Abuja, Lagos-Kaduna-Zaria, Lagos-Jos, Lagos-Enugu, Lagos-Onitsha, Lagos-Owerri, Lagos-Aba, and many others. This reduction in transport fares is expected to facilitate easier and more affordable travel for citizens across the country.
