In a devastating incident in the Federal Low-Cost area of Makurdi, Benue State capital, a retired nurse named Mrs. Esther Amali and her housemaid, Mercy Mwuese, were brutally stabbed to death by a young man who invaded their residence.
The tragic event unfolded around 4:30 pm on Sunday, according to reports from The PUNCH. The assailant gained access to the compound and specifically targeted the housemaid, who was in her 20s, while the retired nurse was temporarily away.
Conflicting versions of the motive behind the attack have surfaced. One account suggests that the housemaid may have been impregnated by a member of a rival cult group, previously associated with the killing of one of their own. Another version claims a dispute between the deceased housemaid and the suspected murderer over his friend, whom she accused of being responsible for her pregnancy and the father of her unborn child.
The suspected murderer had allegedly warned the housemaid multiple times to stop associating his friend with her pregnancy. Taking advantage of the retired nurse’s absence, the attacker scaled a fence to enter the house.
Upon the retired nurse’s return, she was met with the horrifying sounds of her housemaid being brutally attacked. Despite her pleas for the assailant to stop, he continued stabbing the helpless victims, resulting in the tragic deaths of both the retired nurse and her housemaid.
An eyewitness described the scene, recounting how neighbors rushed the victims to the hospital, but tragically, the retired nurse succumbed to her injuries before reaching medical attention. The suspected murderer managed to escape before help arrived.
As of now, the police have not issued an official statement on the matter.
