Military officers who oversaw the arrest of terrorists freed after the Kuje prison break face danger to their life. Both Boko Haram and the West Africa Province of the Islamic State (ISWAP) have promised to target them and their families.

The invasion of the Medium Security Custodial Center in Kuje, Abuja, has been blamed on ISWAP.

Armed with improvised explosive devices (IEDs), grenades, and weapons, scores of its fighters attacked the area Tuesday night.

After the penitentiary had been Infiltrated for hours, hundreds of experienced offenders who were either convicted or on remand escaped.

Many of the terrorists were imprisoned for years after being apprehended by brave military personnel; some were forced to retire in 2016.

Amongst the brave military personnel, are Lieutenant Colonel Mohammed Abdulfatai, Colonel Auwal Suleiman, and Colonel Danladi Ribbah Hassan.

Suleiman oversaw the capture and execution of more than 370 rebels in 2009, and he later assisted in thwarting a Boko Haram plot to attack the Presidential Villa.

Mohammed oversaw the Konduga operation in 2014, which resulted in the death of approximately 200 militants. Both were given official recognition for their accomplishment.

The retired personnel’s lawyer revealed that they had received threats from ISWAP and Boko Haram.

“My client’s life, as well as the lives of his coworkers, are in jeopardy. What the terrorists are preparing is unknown to us”.

On the condition of anonymity, he told Bellnews Online, “The military and other pertinent security institutions must respond quickly”.

Despite favorable court decisions, the council criticized the military hierarchy for neglecting to enable the reinstatement of retired officers.

He said it was encouraging that the current service chiefs have no issues with the findings and expressed the hope that justice will be served.

According to information obtained by Bellnews Online, the former commanders have already sworn to return to the fight against terrorism if the military carries out the court’s directives and recalls them.
