GOVERNOR of Anambra State, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, has been commended for sanitizing Anambra roads by ridding them of touts and illegal revenue collectors extorting motorists and manhandling those that refuse to ‘cooperate’ with them.
The commendation was made by tanker and lorry drivers operating under the aegis of Heavy Duty Truck Drivers Association of Nigeria (HDTDAN).
Making the commendation in Abatete, Idemmili North Local Government Area, yesterday, National President of HDTDAN, Uche Rogers Nebuwa described Gov. Soludo as the saviour of commercial drivers in Anambra State.
According to him, the title befits the governor because in less than 100 days in office, he has achieved what successive administrations had failed to achieve over the years.
“We, the members of Heavy Duty Truck Drivers Association of Nigeria (HDTDAN) wish to thank our dear Governor Chukwuma Soludo (aka Charlie Nwamgbafor) for the great feat he achieved by giving us a sigh of relief in our transportation business. Many lives had been lost, people have been maimed for life, others have sustained various degrees of injury, vehicles have been damaged in the name of ‘ego ibu’ and numerous mysterious tickets at uncountable checkpoints.
I cannot forget the unfortunate murder of one of my union member’s driver two years ago in the hands of these illegal revenue collectors.
A driver who drove all the way from outside country, Cameroun, only to be lynched as he was about parking to offload at Building Materials International Market, Ogidi,” Nebuwa said.
Nebuwa also pledged his members’ readiness and willingness to pay lawful dues and levies that will boost internally generated revenue (IGR) in the state.
