Mr. Yemi Akinyinka, the General Manager of Oyo State Fire Service, disclosed on Sunday that a total of 24 shops were engulfed in flames during a midnight fire at Sango Market in Ibadan.
Speaking to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ibadan, Akinyinka reassured that there were no reported casualties, though the cause of the fire remained undetermined at the time of the report. He added, “But our firefighters have been able to put the situation under control, and an update about the incident will be provided later.”
An eyewitness suggested that an electric spark might be the likely cause of the inferno.
Goods valued at millions of Naira were reportedly lost in the fire, leaving shop owners grappling with the daunting task of rebuilding their businesses. Affected shop owners are now appealing to the government and well-meaning Nigerians for assistance.
This incident follows closely after a recent fire outbreak at Ire Akari Estate in Soka, Ibadan, adding to the series of unfortunate events affecting local businesses in the area.
