Rescued: Former Imo Council of Traditional Rulers Chairman Regains Freedom

The Imo State Police Command has successfully rescued Samuel Ohiri, the immediate past chairman of the Imo State Council of Traditional Rulers, from the clutches of his kidnappers. Ohiri was abducted from his residence in Orodo Mbaitoli Local Government Area on Saturday, January 6, by unidentified gunmen.

Confirming the positive development to PUNCH Online early Thursday, the State Police Public Relations Officer, Henry Okoye, disclosed that the rescue operation was initiated promptly following the directive of the Commissioner of Police, Danjuma Aboki.

“Yes, he has been released. Immediately he was kidnapped, the Commissioner of Police directed the command’s Special Tactical teams, in synergy with the military and other security agencies, to hunt down the hoodlums responsible for the dastardly act, which they did swung into action,” Okoye stated.

He further explained that, thanks to the collaborative efforts of the security operatives, one of the kidnappers has been apprehended. Ohiri’s release was secured as a result of substantial pressure applied to the kidnappers.

Okoye assured that ongoing efforts are in place to apprehend the remaining members of the syndicate responsible for the abduction. Samuel Ohiri, who serves as the traditional ruler of Orodo, previously held the position of council chairman during the tenure of former Governor Rochas Okorocha.
