Late on Friday, Chief Silas Onyimah, the President General of Umuoji Improvement Union (UIUN) in Anambra State, fell victim to a brutal assassination by unidentified gunmen.

Chief Onyimah, previously appointed as UIUN President General by Mrs. VeraQueen Ebele Okonkwo, the Special Adviser on Chieftaincy Affairs to former Governor Willie Obiano, met a tragic end amidst speculations and allegations surrounding his leadership.

According to a report by News Band, Mrs. Okonkwo stands accused of instigating turmoil within the community of Umuoji, purportedly aiming to install her preferred candidate, Chief Anayo Okoye, as the new traditional ruler following the demise of the late Igwe, HRH Cyril Enweze. Allegations further suggest her involvement in destabilizing the community by engaging in land sales for personal gain, with Chief Onyimah allegedly collaborating in these schemes.

Details surrounding Chief Onyimah’s assassination remain sketchy, but according to an Umuoji resident, suspicions arise linking his demise to his involvement in various clandestine activities.

Sources indicate that the assailants ambushed Chief Onyimah in his bedroom, executing him before disposing of his body in his residence’s toilet.
