The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has apprehended 23 individuals suspected of engaging in criminal activities, including rape, armed robbery, and car theft within the territory. FCT Commissioner of Police, Mr Haruna Garba, disclosed this information during a media briefing held in Abuja.

Among the suspects, nine were arrested in connection with “one chance” operations, two for rape, and 12 for armed robbery. The law enforcement operation led to the recovery of five vehicles, five firearms, and 12 live rounds of ammunition from the suspects. Commissioner Garba emphasized that the November arrests and recoveries indicated a significant reduction in crime within the territory for the month of December.

Addressing concerns raised on social media about the safety of the FCT, Garba dismissed such claims as baseless and misleading. He asserted that the FCT remains the safest city in Nigeria, attracting numerous residents and businesses due to its prevailing peace and security.

Garba cautioned against the spread of fake news, urging those responsible for misinformation to consider the impact on the country’s reputation. He highlighted that the intention of such mischief-makers is to instill fear and apprehension among the populace and potential investors.

The Commissioner reassured the public of the police’s commitment to ensuring the safety and security of law-abiding residents in the FCT. He noted the successful and peaceful celebration of Christmas, emphasizing that the security strategies implemented during that period would be replicated for the New Year festival.

In November, FCT operatives arrested 43 suspects involved in various criminal offenses, recovering three stolen vehicles, five firearms, and 30 live rounds of ammunition. Additionally, one suspected kidnapper was neutralized during the same period.
