The Oyo State Government has taken the decision to suspend Chief Kilani Ajani from his position as the Baale of Ilua in Saki West Local Government Area. This suspension was communicated via a letter addressed to the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Olusegun Olayiwola.
The action was prompted by a recommendation stemming from a letter received from the Oyo State Solid Minerals Development Agency, citing Chief Ajani’s alleged involvement in activities leading to unrest and political tension within the Ilua and Gbepakan communities.
Approved by the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, the suspension aims to forestall further escalation of the crisis and to facilitate an impartial investigation into the accusations against Chief Ajani.
The directive, conveyed by the Attorney-General/Commissioner for Justice, Biodun Aikomo, underscores the government’s commitment to upholding peace and stability in affected areas. Notably, this suspension marks the second instance within a month where traditional rulers have faced suspension by the Oyo State government due to suspected ties with illegal mining activities.
