Covering a diverse range of sectors including education, enterprise development, investment promotion, youth empowerment, mining, tourism, and sports, this agreement marks a significant milestone for both nations.

The President-General of Ihiala Progressive Union, IPU, Barrister Okey Leo Ohagba, outlined the banishment of 11 individuals suspected of involvement in cult-related activities. Despite opportunities to clear their names and renounce their affiliations, they failed to comply, leading to their banishment from the community.

In a statement, President Tinubu expressed Nigeria’s readiness to welcome Qatari investors, highlighting ongoing reforms aimed at fostering innovation, ensuring profitable returns on investments, and celebrating multiculturalism. Emphasizing the potential of Nigerian youth as valuable partners for Qatari industries, he underscored the country’s commitment to implementing effective solutions and collaborating with partners for mutual benefits.

In response, the Emir of Qatar, His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, affirmed Qatar’s openness to President Tinubu’s investment initiatives, citing Nigeria’s strategic importance in regional affairs. He pledged to send officials to Nigeria to explore actionable investment opportunities after Ramadan.

President Tinubu appointed Mr. Wale Edun, the Coordinating Minister of the Economy and Minister of Finance, to lead the government team in engaging with Qatari authorities on investment matters. Additionally, Dr. Dele Alake, the Minister of Solid Minerals Development, presented opportunities for mineral processing and value-added industries in Nigeria’s mineral sector.

The bilateral discussions culminated in the signing of seven agreements spanning education, employment regulation, business council establishment, youth and sports cooperation, tourism, business events, and combating illicit trade in narcotics. These agreements were signed by Nigerian and Qatari officials, including Minister of Foreign Affairs Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar and several ministers from both countries.

Key Nigerian ministers present at the ceremony included Dr. Doris Uzoka-Anite, Dr. Muhammad Ali Pate, Dr. Dele Alake, Mr. Ekperipe Ekpo, and Mr. Wale Edun, among others. Also in attendance were National Security Adviser Mallam Nuhu Ribadu and Special Adviser on Energy Mrs. Olu Verheijen.
