The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) reported receiving 752 complaints of human rights abuse in Plateau state from January to November 2023. Veronica Abe, the NHRC Coordinator in the state, revealed this information on Monday in Jos.
The reported cases encompassed a spectrum of human rights violations, ranging from unlawful detention, extrajudicial killings, and inhuman treatment to domestic violence, child abuse, child abandonment, rape, denial of inheritance, and forced marriage.
Abe disclosed that a majority of the cases had been addressed and concluded, while some were still ongoing. The affected individuals totaled 1,053, with 166 women and 463 children among them.
The NHRC coordinator assured that the pending cases would be attended to soon. She urged residents of Plateau to promptly report cases of abuse to the appropriate authorities for swift action.
